The 33-hour MSHI degree program prepares students for careers in health informatics through the interdisciplinary study of the design, development, adoption and application of technology-based innovations in healthcare services delivery, management, and planning. Among the primary technologies and disciplines explored are:

Electronic Health Records. EHR systems make the sharing of information between healthcare professionals more efficient and provide patients with easier access to their own information, enabling them to become active partners in their care and treatment.

Clinical Data Analytics. This growing discipline enables healthcare professionals, using the rapidly expanding volume of health data, to identify and measure the quality of medical care and perform research that compares the relative effectiveness of different clinical treatments.

Mobile Health. Increasingly powerful wireless devices such as smartphones and tablets allow providers to monitor and share important medical information with their patients. In addition, patients are empowered to become active participants in their care by quickly and conveniently sending clinical data to their care team.
